New skills for field workers
EASUN offers specialised training in facilitation skills for field workers of civil society organisations (CSOs). The training is delivered as the Facilitation Skills for Field workers (FAF) course, and it provides critical institutional development support to CSOs that deliver development interventions/services to grassroots communities.
Follow up visits with FAF training participants in Uganda have revealed that EASUN-trained field workers were able to apply the tools and techniques acquired to great effect in project and other learning situations with community groups. In addition, local community groups they facilitated have strengthened their presence and advocacy in district levels discussions about improving government delivery of social services at local levels.
Facilitation skills acquired by field workers can also shift overall practices and impact of organisations receiving FAF training, where an organisation may seek further support, such as coaching of leaders or team building. EASUN offers such additional support through OD interventions, upon request.
Reflecting on discovering the “self” as a tool for facilitating change, a number of FAF graduates have reflected on their own specific transformations influenced by the course. Dan’s “new facilitation treasure” stands out among the stories shared:
As a new social worker I was desperate for tools. After the FAF training I realized it was my questioning techniques and lack of a systematic way of building on information that kept getting me stuck. Open questions and the action-learning model are my new best friends.
