2008 Annual Report coming your way with precious insights
Read about EASUN's training and networking outcomes, including visible increases in:
- The will to inspire the development of others;
- Awareness and skills for becoming facilitative leaders;
- Excitement at discovering the goodness of diversity;
- Ability to transform quality of participation and levels of confidence in grassroots communities;
- Resolve to establish a formal Association for Practicing OD in East Africa (APODEA).
Become enlightened by EASUN's own learning from emerging issues in 2008, namely:
- The strategic nature of shared purpose in organizations - how unwritten, unacknowledged cross-purposes begin to destroy an organisation's abilities, potential and effectiveness.
- How transformational learning is hindered by traditional mindsets related to organisational development.
- The value of facilitating development through engagement with "lived experiences" of participants.
EASUN, together with organisations trained in 2008, celebrates great stories of change. These stories demonstrate levels of impact that brought trained leaders to new places in their abilities to transform the situations in which they work.

Creating alternative spaces for growth
CSO leaders in the region affirm popularity of FAF and FOD courses
EASUN organised a workshop for CSO leaders from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to assess impact of its main leadership and facilitation skills courses - FOD (Facilitating Organisation Development) and FAF (Facilitation Skills for Fieldworkers). The workshop, held from 20-21 August 2009 in Moshi, Tanzania, was attended by 21 leaders from 13 organisations. Participants included a number of FAF and FOD graduates trained between 1997 and 2008.
Insights and new learning from the workshop pointed both to the impact already perceived and strategies likely to generate more of the desired outcomes from the two courses. Experienced areas of transformation include:
- New reflective practices have strengthened the learning culture and enabled organisations to become more aware about sources of their strengths and weaknesses;
- Increased openness to new ways of working with others have improved team performance and networking as a means of creating value for local communities.
With regard to strategies that need strengthening, participants noted that while the two courses are quite popular, they are likely to achieve the most impact when individuals attending become the critical mass in their various organisations. It was also recommended that more heads of organisations attend FOD in order for their organisations to reap the greatest benefit from the course offerings.

Edna completes two years of internship at EASUN and shares her "voyage of discovery"
Onward with courage,
I stepped into the unknown.
Joy and happiness fill my heart,
As I discover God given gifts,
that no one can steal.
Glorious, wonderful and strange life!
No warning about the pain of letting go.
No one said it wouldn't be easy - I'm glad they didn't,
For my journey would just end there!
I have treaded the path of anxiety,
But someone was there, listening and supporting,
Sharing a smile, laughter.
Easing a wounded heart.
Someone, s/he was there.
I learned to cherish space
for healing, learning and discovery.
Wherever I will travel or dwell,
memories of this journey are treasured forever
Come join my journey,
Go where there is not path and leave a trail, others will take heed!
"I am leaving EASUN as a conscious, self aware and empowered young woman leader!" --Edna
Edna Chilimo was enrolled in EASUN's internship programme for young women leaders from September 2007 to August 2009. We at EASUN appreciate and will miss the dedication, initiative and care that she demonstrated in both learning situations and activity implementation.
